The list of CreaTech Animation Incubator Finalistsis ready! When the Annecy International Animation Festival announced that it’s 2020 season would spotlight on African Animation, it sent shockwaves of excitement throughout the industry.
The festival brings together buyers, distributors, producers, animators, and fans to showcase the best in animation. Animators are given the opportunity to pitch to buyers and distributors with the hope of getting their animated series or film produced.
As part of the development of the CreaTech Animation and Game Lab, ADMF launched the CreaTech Animation Incubator with the hope of taking 10 aspiring animators to Annecy.
According to Founding Director, Wilfred Kiumi, “we see this as work to develop our industry. Even if one project gets produced it could create employment for many young animators.”
ADMF launched a call for the Incubator in January and by March we had received 35 submissions from all over East Africa including Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya. We were quite encouraged by the quality and depth of talent of the projects we received.
The team of judges included representatives of the HEVA Fund, Rubika, the Association of Animation Artistes, and ADMI decided on a cohort of ten animators, all representative of the region.
Although the 2020 festival was canceled due to COVID-19, the ten projects will be prepared to attend the festival in 2021.
